The Geisha tradition of Japan is one such example, a unique and intriguing custom with a special place in Japanese culture. But what are the traditional practices of the Geisha, and what interesting stories can it tell? The word Geisha translates directly to “ entertainer”, and the evolution of the role can be accredited to the pleasure districts of large cities like Tokyo during the Edo Period of the 18th century. Geisha are traditionally female, and the profession requires strict education in various traditional arts including the art of conversation, music, and dance. The most iconic and traditional form of the Geisha remains the same.
