Examining the Influence of Japanese Ceramics The history of Japanese ceramics goes back centuries and it has been an integral part of the culture since the Jomon period (13,000 - 300 BCE). As over time, here is where we examine the influence of Japanese ceramics today and the impact they had on the world. Japanese ceramics are renowned throughout the world with pieces found in museums, galleries and auction houses that date back centuries. Initially the art form was used for religious purposes and for decoration of shrines and temples. Later, it evolved into being used for everyday items as part of the tea ceremony, as well as for plates and other ceremonial items.
